Eat Street Northshore has never been a well-kept secret, and on a warm Friday or Saturday evening the precinct fills fast. That’s not a complaint, it’s the whole point of the place. But if you’d rather wander between kitchens than queue for one, timing your visit makes all the difference.

The quiet windows

Doors open at 4pm on Friday and Saturday, and the first hour or so is genuinely calm. Turn up right on opening and you’ll have your pick of tables, no scrum at the bars, and time to properly work out which kitchens you want to circle back to later. The other sweet spot is after about 8pm, once the early crowd has eaten and started drifting home and the evening settles into something easier.

Sunday tends to run a touch quieter than the Friday and Saturday rush too, if your week allows for it. Doors are open 4pm to 9pm.

If you want a seat locked in
